Sidekick: Kichijōji Keisatsusho Seikatsu Anzenka #5

Sidekick: Kichijōji Keisatsusho Seikatsu Anzenka, known in English as Sidekick: Kichijoji Police Station Life Safety Division, is a seinen manga series that centers on the daily operations and human dynamics within a police station's community safety division. The series explores the intersection of bureaucratic duty and the unpredictable nature of civic life in the Kichijōji neighborhood of Tokyo. It gained recognition for its grounded, character-driven approach to the police procedural genre, prioritizing interpersonal relationships and minor community disputes over high-stakes action.

The series is authored by Jiro Taniguchi, whose illustrative style is characterized by precise linework, a naturalistic approach to urban environments, and a focus on the subtle emotional states of his characters. This particular volume, issue number five, continues the overarching narrative of the division members as they navigate local challenges. It reflects Taniguchi’s broader thematic interests in the beauty of everyday life and the quiet dignity found in routine service roles, a perspective that garnered the series a dedicated readership appreciative of seinen manga that eschews typical genre tropes.
