Where it came from
Sigurd is a long-running Swedish adventure comic created by illustrator Helge Forsslund. First appearing in the mid-20th century, the series follows the eponymous hero through various historical and folkloric settings. It became a staple of the Swedish newsstand tradition, reflecting the era's enduring interest in illustrated heroic fiction that balanced traditional storytelling with accessible, classic pen-and-ink artistry.
Issue 72 arrived during the series' mature phase, maintaining the consistent visual identity that defined Forsslund's work. The design focused on clear, kinetic line work intended to be legible for younger readers while maintaining the gravitas of a classic protagonist. Like many issues of this period, it served as a reliable cultural fixture, appreciated by regional collectors for its continuity and its dedication to the archetypal hero’s journey.
