Where it came from
Sillage, known as Wake in English, is a long-running French science fiction comic series created by writer Jean-David Morvan and artist Philippe Buchet. First launched in 1998, the series follows Nävis, a human girl raised by aliens, as she navigates a massive convoy of spacefaring vessels. Issue #24, titled 'Infiltrés', continues the series' exploration of complex political maneuvering and ethical dilemmas within the titular fleet, maintaining the high-concept visual storytelling that has defined the franchise for decades.
The aesthetic of Sillage is characterized by Buchet's vibrant, digital-influenced art style, which emphasizes sprawling sci-fi environments and diverse character designs. Over the course of twenty-four volumes, the series has been praised for its consistent world-building and its ability to address mature themes through a space opera lens. The twenty-fourth installment reflects the established creative partnership of Morvan and Buchet, who have meticulously expanded the lore of the Wake universe to remain a staple of contemporary Franco-Belgian bandes dessinées.
