Spider-Man: Chapter One #1

Spider-Man: Chapter One #1 was released in 1998 as part of a high-profile initiative to retell the origin story of Peter Parker for a new generation of readers. The series was written and illustrated by John Byrne, a legendary creator in the comic industry, who aimed to modernize the character's debut while streamlining decades of continuity into a cohesive, updated narrative that aligned with the late-nineties aesthetic.

The reception of the series was polarized among the fan base, as many long-time readers felt the reimagining strayed too far from the charm and tone of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s original 1962 debut. While the series succeeded in its technical goal of condensing the early lore, it remains a controversial chapter in the history of Marvel Comics, noted primarily for its bold attempt to replace a foundational mythos with an individual artist's singular vision.
