Spider-Man: Chapter One #9

Spider-Man: Chapter One was launched in 1998 as a miniseries intended to modernize and retell the origin story of Peter Parker. Written and illustrated by John Byrne, the series was commissioned by Marvel Comics as part of a broader initiative to update classic Silver Age narratives for a new generation of readers, effectively acting as an alternative continuity to the foundational stories established by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in the 1960s.

The creative direction focused on expanding upon original plot points while refining the visual style to match contemporary standards. John Byrne utilized his signature clean, dynamic aesthetic to reimagine key encounters and character beats. While the series succeeded in providing a cohesive origin for a modern audience, it received mixed reactions from long-time fans who held the original source material in high regard, remaining a distinct and debated chapter in the character's publication history.
