Spider-Man Noir #5

Spider-Man Noir #5, published by Marvel Comics in 2009, serves as the conclusion to the debut miniseries that reimagined Peter Parker within the grit and shadows of 1930s New York. Created by writers David Hine and Fabrice Sapolsky with art by Carmine Di Giandomenico, the series was part of Marvel's Noir imprint, which sought to interpret iconic characters through the lens of pulp detective fiction and Great Depression-era social unrest.

The visual design of the series leans heavily into high-contrast chiaroscuro, utilizing a monochromatic color palette to evoke the atmosphere of classic film noir. Di Giandomenico’s dynamic, scratchy linework was intended to emphasize the brutality of this darker timeline. Upon its release, the series received a positive reception for its atmospheric world-building, ultimately proving influential enough to secure the character a lasting presence in modern media, including later appearances in animation.
