Lore

Why it matters

As part of the Tangled Web series, this issue serves as a unique exploration of the wider world surrounding its titular hero. Collectors often value such entries for their ability to focus on self-contained narratives that shift the perspective away from the primary protagonist.

Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2002 as part of the Spider-Man's Tangled Web anthology series, this issue was designed to showcase experimental storytelling and unique artistic perspectives outside of the primary Marvel continuity. The series was established by Marvel editorial to allow creators more creative freedom, resulting in a varied collection of standalone tales that prioritized mood and unconventional narrative structures over long-term canon integration.

Issue 13 features the story 'The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man', a notable entry written by Roger Stern, who revisited the classic theme established in Amazing Spider-Man #248. The artistic direction for this volume leaned into a more grounded, evocative aesthetic, aiming to capture the emotional resonance of how Spider-Man affects the lives of ordinary citizens. Upon release, it was well-received by fans of character-driven comic literature for its melancholic and poignant tone.
