Spider-Woman #38

Spider-Woman number 38, published in 1981, arrived during the twilight of the original Jessica Drew series. At this stage in the character's history, the narrative tone had shifted significantly from her espionage-heavy origins toward more traditional superhero tropes. This issue represents a period where the title was struggling to maintain a consistent identity, leading to experimental arcs that eventually culminated in the character's temporary retirement shortly thereafter.

The cover and interior art from this era reflect the evolving house style of Marvel Comics in the early 1980s, prioritizing dynamic action sequences to bolster declining sales. While the issue is often viewed by historians as a transitional chapter in the broader mythos of the Spider-Woman mantle, it remains a notable piece for collectors focusing on the conclusion of the character's first solo run and the creative shifts that occurred before the title's cancellation in 1983.
