Star Trek: Starfleet Academy--Lost Contact #2

Starfleet Academy: Lost Contact was a limited comic book series published by Marvel Comics in 1997. Set within the broader Star Trek universe, the series focused on the early careers and interpersonal dynamics of cadets at the academy, aiming to capitalize on the enduring popularity of the franchise during the height of the Deep Space Nine and Voyager era. The series was designed to provide a more youthful, character-driven perspective on the Trek mythos, blending traditional science fiction tropes with the classic coming-of-age narrative structure.

This specific issue, the second in the arc, was penned by Chris Cooper and featured illustrative work by Jeffrey Moy and W.C. Carani. The creative team sought to expand the canon of the Academy experience, which had been previously explored in limited fashion. Upon its release, the comic was received as a niche expansion of the franchise, appealing primarily to dedicated collectors who valued the internal continuity and character development of the academy setting over the high-stakes political narratives typical of the televised series.
