Star*Reach #6

Star*Reach, launched in 1974 by Mike Friedrich, was a pioneering independent comic book anthology that sought to provide a creative haven for writers and artists seeking autonomy from the editorial constraints of the major publishing houses. Issue number 6, published in 1976, reflects the series' commitment to elevated science fiction and fantasy storytelling, serving as a platform for creators to experiment with mature themes and more sophisticated narrative structures that were uncommon in the mainstream industry at the time.

The issue features diverse contributions that showcase the transition of the underground comix spirit into the more refined aesthetics of the mid-1970s independent scene. The art direction and editorial vision were guided by Friedrich’s desire to foster a collaborative environment, bringing together talented illustrators who were encouraged to pursue personal stylistic choices. The publication is recognized today by historians for its role in laying the groundwork for the modern independent comics movement and for influencing the evolution of creator-owned content.
