Starriors #1

Starriors #1 was released in 1984 by Marvel Comics as part of a tie-in strategy for the Tomy toy line of the same name. Created in an era when toy companies frequently partnered with comic publishers to build lore for new action figure series, the comic was designed to provide a post-apocalyptic narrative context for the robotic characters, who were depicted as surviving in an underground world long after humanity had perished.

The comic was written by Louise Simonson and illustrated by Ernie Colón, who were tasked with translating the mechanical, modular nature of the toys into a kinetic and engaging visual format. While the series did not achieve the long-term cultural ubiquity of similar 1980s franchises, the initial issue is noted by comic historians for its attempt to blend high-concept science fiction with the limitations of a marketing-driven property.
