Strikeforce: Morituri #25

Strikeforce: Morituri #25, published in 1989, serves as the final issue of a unique Marvel Comics series that debuted in 1986. Created by writer Peter B. Gillis and artist Brent Anderson, the series introduced a gritty, high-stakes premise: humanity is locked in an existential war against aliens, and the only defense is a procedure that grants humans superpowers at the cost of their inevitable, accelerated death. This final issue concludes the overarching narrative, providing resolution to the tragic arc of the Morituri soldiers.

The series was notable for its subversion of traditional superhero tropes, focusing heavily on mortality, character drama, and the psychological weight of the 'Morituri effect.' Brent Anderson’s illustrative style, followed by later contributions from artists like Whilce Portacio, helped define the series' somber tone. While Strikeforce: Morituri has maintained a cult following among comic enthusiasts for its innovative concept and commitment to a definitive ending, issue #25 is particularly recognized for closing the chapter on one of Marvel's more experimental 1980s titles.
