Strontium Dog #4

Strontium Dog first appeared in the British science fiction anthology comic 2000 AD in 1978. Created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, the series follows Johnny Alpha, a mutant bounty hunter operating in a post-apocalyptic future where mutants are persecuted outcasts. The character was designed to explore themes of prejudice and social hierarchy, grounding its space-faring adventures in a gritty, cynical tone that defined the 'Tharg's Future Shocks' era of British comics.

Issue number 4 represents a key moment in the early development of the strip's internal world-building. Under the creative direction of the 2000 AD editorial team, the series utilized Ezquerra’s distinctively angular and expressive illustration style to set it apart from other contemporary science fiction. The strip was exceptionally well-received by readers, eventually becoming one of the most enduring staples of the 2000 AD legacy, frequently cited for its blend of high-concept action and biting social satire.
