Super Manga Blast! #28

Super Manga Blast! was an influential monthly anthology magazine published by CPM Manga starting in the late 1990s. It served as a critical gateway for North American readers to access diverse Japanese manga titles, serializing chapters from series like 3x3 Eyes and Shadow Star. The magazine was conceived to bridge the gap between niche imported trade paperbacks and the burgeoning Western interest in serialized Japanese storytelling, utilizing a thick, black-and-white newsprint format common to its Japanese counterparts.

Issue 28 arrived during a period of transition for the publication, as it continued to curate a mix of action, fantasy, and seinen-oriented titles. The design philosophy behind the magazine focused on affordability and breadth, providing readers with consistent installments of multiple ongoing narratives. While CPM Manga eventually ceased publication of the title in the mid-2000s, the magazine is remembered by enthusiasts for its role in establishing an early, dedicated audience for manga in the English-speaking market.
