Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #240

Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #240 was published by DC Comics in June 1978, during a pivotal era for the franchise. The title had recently transitioned from being a backup feature to holding its own regular monthly status, reflecting the growing popularity of the 30th-century super-team among readers. This issue serves as a hallmark of the Bronze Age of comics, characterized by increasingly complex character dynamics and serialized storytelling that moved beyond the simpler episodic plots of previous decades.

The issue features art by James Sherman and Joe Staton, who were instrumental in defining the Legion's aesthetic during the late 1970s. Their work aimed to balance the expansive, futuristic scope of the team's membership with the grounded emotional conflicts central to the narrative. At the time of its release, the creative direction was overseen by writer Paul Levitz, who was beginning his lengthy and celebrated association with the Legion. The title was well-received for its ability to maintain a consistent tone across a vast cast, establishing a blueprint for ensemble superhero comics.
