Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #254

Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #254, published in August 1979, represents the final issue under this specific title before the series was renamed to The Legion of Super-Heroes. This era was defined by the writing of Gerry Conway and the artwork of Joe Staton and Jack Abel, who navigated the complex continuity of the 30th-century super-team. The story centers on the group's efforts to thwart the schemes of the villainous Time Trapper, reflecting the editorial push to modernize the Legion’s narrative stakes during the late bronze age of comics.

The cover art, created by Dave Cockrum, showcases his signature dynamic style that helped define the visual identity of the Legion during the mid-to-late 1970s. Cockrum’s background in character design is evident in the intricate costume details and the expressive, action-oriented compositions he utilized to distinguish the large roster of characters. The issue is widely regarded by collectors as a significant transitional piece that marks the closing of a chapter in DC Comics history as the company prepared for the launch of a new, standalone Legion series.
