Sword of Damocles #1

Sword of Damocles #1 was published in 1988 by First Comics, emerging during the late eighties era of independent American comic books. The series was designed to explore themes of political philosophy and high-stakes intrigue, utilizing the classic Greek myth as a metaphor for the precarious nature of power. This debut issue helped establish the series' reputation for dense, character-driven storytelling.

The comic was written by Cullen Murphy and illustrated by Jill Thompson, who brought a distinctive, moody aesthetic to the pages that matched the gravity of the script. The series was noted by contemporary critics for its serious tone and departure from traditional superhero tropes, though it remained a niche publication that occupied a specific corner of the independent market.
