Where it came from
Taika's Reason #2 is part of a niche, independent zine series created by Taika Waititi during his early career in New Zealand. These publications served as an experimental creative outlet, predating his widespread recognition as a filmmaker. They are characterized by a raw, lo-fi aesthetic that captures the idiosyncratic humor and visual sensibilities that would later define his directorial style.
The series was produced in limited quantities for local distribution, reflecting the burgeoning DIY art and comedy scene in Wellington during the early 2000s. The design intentionally leans into a minimalist, hand-crafted look, prioritizing personal expression over polished commercial presentation. While these items remain relatively obscure outside of dedicated fan circles, they are considered significant artifacts for those documenting the evolution of Waititi's creative voice.
