Teen Titans #17

Published by DC Comics in 1968, Teen Titans #17 occupies a transitional space in the history of the original young superhero team. Created by writer Bob Haney and artist Nick Cardy, the series was designed to showcase the sidekicks of the Justice League—including Robin, Aqualad, and Kid Flash—as they navigated adventures independent of their mentors. This specific issue reflects the era's experimentation with tone, as the creative team attempted to balance traditional costumed heroics with the burgeoning social consciousness of the late 1960s.

The visual identity of this era is defined largely by Nick Cardy’s kinetic, expressive ink work, which remains highly regarded by collectors for its anatomical fluidity and dramatic framing. At the time of its release, the Teen Titans were a staple of the DC lineup, though they were often subject to the editorial flux common to Silver Age titles. While the series did not reach the commercial heights of the flagship Justice League books, it provided a platform for younger readers to engage with serialized storytelling that gradually moved toward more character-driven conflicts.
