Where it came from
This volume is part of the light novel series Tegirekin Kawari ni Watasareta Tokage no Tamago, Jitsu wa Dragon datta Ken, or The Dragon Egg Given in Lieu of Severance Pay. The series originated as a web novel on the Japanese platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō, emerging during the peak of the 'isekai' and fantasy subgenre boom in the mid-2010s. The narrative focuses on an accountant who receives a dragon egg as compensation, blending tropes of bureaucratic fantasy with creature-raising elements.
The physical publication, illustrated by the artist Hyouketsu, features a signature aesthetic common to modern light novel imprints, prioritizing character-driven cover art that highlights the dynamic between the protagonist and the hatchling. As a secondary volume, it continues the series' established tone of cozy fantasy, aiming to provide a low-stakes, humorous adventure for readers familiar with the light novel market's penchant for unconventional workplace scenarios.
