The Amazing Spider-Man #15

The Amazing Spider-Man number 15, published in 1964, serves as a pivotal entry in the early history of the Marvel Universe, marking the first appearance of Kraven the Hunter. Stan Lee and Steve Ditko collaborated to introduce this character, aiming to expand Spider-Man's rogues' gallery with a more grounded, physical antagonist compared to the supernatural or tech-based villains that preceded him. The story follows Sergei Kravinoff, a big-game hunter who views capturing Spider-Man as the ultimate challenge to validate his reputation.

Steve Ditko's visual approach for this issue remained consistent with his distinct, moody style that defined the early era of the series. His design for Kraven incorporated elements of tribal attire and tactical hunting gear, which contrasted sharply with Spider-Man's vibrant, spandex-clad appearance. The issue was well-received by readers at the time, helping to solidify the long-term viability of the title and cementing Kraven the Hunter as one of Spider-Man's most enduring and psychologically complex adversaries.
