The Amazing Spider-Man #188

The Amazing Spider-Man #188 was published by Marvel Comics in January 1979 during a transitional period for the character. It features the work of writer Marv Wolfman and artist Keith Pollard, who were tasked with maintaining the narrative momentum of the series as it approached its 200th issue milestone. The story continues to explore the personal and professional struggles of Peter Parker, balancing the pressures of academic life with his responsibilities as a hero.

The issue is historically noted for its cover, illustrated by Dave Cockrum, which depicts Spider-Man in a tense confrontation with the character Jigsaw. This era of the series emphasized the gritty, street-level criminal underworld of New York City, moving away from the more fantastical science-fiction elements that dominated earlier runs. While it is viewed by collectors as a standard mid-run issue, it remains a significant example of the house style Marvel utilized in the late 1970s to keep the Spider-Man franchise grounded and relatable.
