The Amazing Spider-Man #301

The Amazing Spider-Man #301 was published by Marvel Comics in June 1988, arriving as the immediate successor to the high-profile 300th-anniversary issue. Following the departure of Todd McFarlane from the interior art duties on the milestone issue, issue #301 served as a transition point, featuring artwork by Alex Saviuk. The story, written by David Michelinie, continued the complex narrative threads established during his tenure, focusing on the character's ongoing internal conflicts and his strained relationship with the public after his long-term tenure in the black symbiote suit.

The cover art, provided by Todd McFarlane, retains the energetic and highly detailed style that defined his legendary run on the series. McFarlane was intentionally pushing the visual boundaries of comic art at the time, utilizing more intricate webbing patterns and dynamic, fluid poses that would eventually influence the aesthetic of the medium throughout the 1990s. While it is often overshadowed by the historical significance of the preceding issue, #301 remains a sought-after piece for collectors who appreciate the transitional era of the late Bronze Age of comics.
