The Amazing Spider-Man #315

The Amazing Spider-Man #315 was published by Marvel Comics in May 1989, landing squarely in a period of intense creative transition for the wall-crawler. Written by David Michelinie with iconic cover art and interior illustrations by Todd McFarlane, the issue is part of the pivotal Venom arc that helped define the character's late 1980s aesthetic. At this stage in the series, McFarlane was refining his signature dynamic, high-energy style that would soon revolutionize the visual language of the medium.

This issue captures the narrative momentum of the 'Venom' storyline, focusing on the tension between Peter Parker and his formidable adversary. McFarlane’s work on this title is widely cited for its influence on the industry, as his dramatic, textured renderings of Spider-Man’s webbing and Venom’s monstrous anatomy set a new standard for detail. The issue is regarded by collectors as a significant piece of the McFarlane run, representing a moment when Marvel’s artistic direction was shifting toward the more stylized, creator-driven sensibilities that would come to dominate the 1990s.
