The Amazing Spider-Man #346

The Amazing Spider-Man #346 was published by Marvel Comics in April 1991, during a period defined by the high-octane creative energy of the early nineties. Written by David Michelinie with cover art and interior illustrations by Erik Larsen, the issue serves as a pivotal chapter in the long-running storyline involving the Venom symbiote. This era was marked by a shift toward more visceral, darker character designs, as Marvel leaned into the immense popularity that characters like Venom had garnered with readers over the preceding few years.

Erik Larsen’s contribution to this era of Spider-Man is often noted for his bold, kinetic style, which moved away from the more traditional depictions of the character. By this point in the series, the Venom character had transitioned from a straightforward villain into a recurring, complex antagonist, and this issue leans into that evolution. Critics and fans of the period often highlight Larsen’s dynamic layouts and exaggerated anatomy as hallmark features of the 'Marvel Age' aesthetic, reflecting a broader industry trend toward visually aggressive storytelling during the early nineties.
