The Amazing Spider-Man #46

The Amazing Spider-Man issue 46 was published by Marvel Comics in March 1967. This era of the series continued the creative partnership between writer Stan Lee and artist John Romita Sr., who had taken over the title from Steve Ditko the previous year. This particular issue follows the 'Lee-Romita' house style, which moved the series toward a more polished, soap-operatic aesthetic that solidified Peter Parker’s status as a young adult navigating professional and romantic pressures.

The cover art, executed by Romita, showcases the Shocker, a villain who made his debut in this issue. Designed by Romita, the Shocker's distinctive quilted suit was conceived to be visually arresting and functionally consistent with his vibration-based powers. The character was well-received by readers at the time for his grounded, industrial aesthetic, which departed from the more mystical or animal-themed villains common in earlier issues, helping to expand Spider-Man's rogues' gallery with a distinct, tech-based antagonist.
