The Amazing Spider-Man #81

Published in February 1970, The Amazing Spider-Man #81 arrived during a transitional period for Marvel Comics as the Silver Age of comics began to yield to the more socially conscious Bronze Age. Penned by Stan Lee with pencils by John Romita Sr., the story features the villainous Electro and continues the intricate interpersonal dramas that defined the series, grounding the fantastical heroics of Peter Parker in his genuine struggles with employment and personal relationships.

The visual storytelling in this issue reflects John Romita Sr.'s signature style, which emphasized expressive character work and a refined, clean aesthetic that helped solidify the modern look of Spider-Man’s supporting cast. At the time of its release, the issue was received as a steady entry in a long-running saga that prioritized character-driven subplots, cementing the title's reputation for balancing costumed action with the relatable, everyday hardships of its protagonist.
