The Amazing Spider-Man #89

Published in October 1970, The Amazing Spider-Man #89 represents a significant turning point in the series, occurring during the transition period following the departure of co-creator Steve Ditko and the established collaborative tenure of writer Stan Lee and artist Gil Kane. The issue features the continuation of the 'Doc Ock' storyline, emphasizing the heightened dramatic stakes that characterized the bronze age of Marvel comics, where Peter Parker faced increasingly complex personal and professional struggles alongside his heroic responsibilities.

The cover art and interior pencil work were provided by Gil Kane, whose dynamic, energetic style helped modernize Spider-Man's look as the character aged into a more mature narrative role. Kane’s work was noted for its fluid movement and heightened emotional expression, which were essential for conveying the angst Lee intended for Peter Parker during this era. The issue is widely regarded by collectors as a quintessential example of late Silver Age/early Bronze Age craftsmanship that solidified Spider-Man's status as Marvel's flagship character.
