The Batman Chronicles #15

Published in the autumn of 1998, The Batman Chronicles #15 emerged during a period when DC Comics utilized this quarterly anthology series to explore experimental storytelling and diverse artistic perspectives outside the constraints of the main monthly titles. This specific issue is particularly noted for its inclusion of the story 'The Origin of the Batman', which provided a poignant, stylized retelling of Bruce Wayne’s transformative trauma, capturing the haunting atmosphere essential to the character's legacy.

The creative direction for this issue was driven by a collaborative effort to bridge classic pulp sensibilities with modern comic aesthetics. Illustrators and writers were encouraged to push thematic boundaries, resulting in a visual language that leaned heavily into shadow-drenched noir. The issue was generally well-received by readers at the time for maintaining the series' reputation as a home for distinct, character-focused narratives that favored depth and mood over the high-octane spectacle prevalent in mainstream superhero comics of the late nineties.
