Where it came from
Published in 1982, The Best of DC #31 served as a specialized anthology title intended to repackage classic material for a new generation of readers. During this period, DC Comics frequently utilized this series to present thematic collections or reprints of specific character runs, offering fans an accessible entry point to stories that might otherwise have been unavailable in the standard monthly rotation.
This specific issue is notable for its focus on the 'Super-Pets,' gathering adventures featuring Krypto the Superdog, Streaky the Supercat, and other animal companions from the DC mythos. The design leaned into the lighthearted, whimsical nature of the Silver Age aesthetic, curated to appeal to nostalgic readers while maintaining the vibrant, action-oriented art style that defined the era's editorial approach to secondary character collections.
