The Books of Magic #66

The Books of Magic #66 was published in 2000 as part of the long-running Vertigo imprint series. Created by Neil Gaiman in 1990 as a four-issue miniseries, the property grew into a massive ongoing title that explored the darker, more academic side of DC Comics' magical underworld. By the time issue #66 arrived, the series had evolved through various creative hands, reflecting the imprint's penchant for literary, character-driven storytelling that distanced itself from traditional superhero tropes.

This issue represents the tail end of the series' primary run, which focused on the protagonist Timothy Hunter as he navigated the complex and often dangerous realities of his potential as a powerful mage. The visual design and narrative tone during this period leaned into the atmospheric, gothic sensibilities that defined Vertigo's aesthetic at the turn of the millennium. It is widely regarded as a significant chapter for readers interested in the transition of occult fantasy within the mature-readers comic book landscape.
