The Books of Magic #63

The Books of Magic #63 was published in 1999 as part of the Vertigo imprint under DC Comics. The series follows the character Timothy Hunter, a young boy destined to become the world's most powerful magician. This issue arrived during the later years of the original ongoing series, a period marked by shifting creative directions as the title explored darker, more mature themes consistent with the Vertigo aesthetic established by Neil Gaiman’s original 1990 miniseries.

This issue features the work of writer Peter Gross, who served as a primary architect for much of the series' run, alongside artwork that maintained the moody, atmospheric visual language associated with the Hunter saga. The narrative focus during this era often leaned into the psychological toll of Timothy's magical education and the moral ambiguity of the supernatural world, reflecting the imprint's commitment to subverting traditional comic book fantasy tropes.
