The Brave and the Bold #180

The Brave and the Bold #180, published in November 1981 by DC Comics, arrived during the final years of the series' long run as a team-up title. At this stage, the book primarily featured Batman paired with various characters from the DC Universe, a formula that had defined the title since the late 1960s. This specific issue was produced during a period when DC was navigating shifting reader preferences, often relying on the reliable draw of Batman to bridge the gap between their flagship characters and more experimental pairings.

This issue features a story written by Mike W. Barr, with interior art by Dave Gibbons and cover art by Jim Aparo. The narrative focuses on Batman and the Creeper, a character known for his chaotic energy and distinct visual flair. The creative direction aimed to blend the detective-driven, grounded nature of Batman with the erratic, psychological complexity of the Creeper, a stylistic juxtaposition that Gibbons handled with his characteristic technical precision and clean line work, garnering moderate appreciation from contemporary readers for its moody atmosphere.
