Where it came from
Published in 1970, The Brave and the Bold #89 marked a significant moment in the DC Comics landscape by featuring a team-up between Batman and the Black Canary. During this era, the series functioned as an anthology of sorts, pairing the Dark Knight with various DC characters to explore different dynamics and genres. This specific issue is particularly notable for introducing a new costume for Black Canary, marking a transition in her aesthetic and character portrayal that would influence her appearance for years to come.
The issue was written by Mike Friedrich with iconic artwork provided by Neal Adams. Adams, whose contributions to the comic book industry are legendary, brought a grittier, more cinematic quality to the characters that resonated deeply with readers of the Silver and Bronze Ages. His depiction of movement and atmosphere helped elevate the series, and his work on this issue is frequently cited by collectors as a prime example of his definitive style during his tenure at DC.
