The Chronicles Of Solomon Kane #1

The Chronicles of Solomon Kane #1 was published by Dark Horse Comics in 2008, marking a significant attempt to modernize Robert E. Howard’s seventeenth-century Puritan monster hunter for a new generation of readers. The series was developed as part of Dark Horse’s broader commitment to adapting Howard’s pulp fiction bibliography into visual storytelling, aiming to maintain the gritty, dark atmosphere that defined the original prose stories first published in the 1920s.

The artistic direction for this debut issue was helmed by writer Scott Allie and illustrator Mario Guevara. Their objective was to capture the brooding, supernatural tension inherent in Kane’s struggle against occult forces, moving away from the more stylized superhero tropes popular at the time toward a more textured, horror-leaning aesthetic. Upon its release, the issue was generally well-received by fans of pulp literature for its fidelity to Howard’s source material and the evocative, shadow-heavy imagery created by the creative team.
