The Complete Harrow County #1

Harrow County #1 was published by Dark Horse Comics in 2015, marking the start of a celebrated gothic horror series created by writer Cullen Bunn and artist Tyler Crook. Conceived as a southern gothic folktale, the narrative centers on Emmy, a young girl discovering her dark connection to the supernatural inhabitants of her rural home. The series emerged from a desire to blend visceral horror with heartfelt character-driven storytelling, standing out in the comic landscape for its atmospheric, hand-painted watercolor aesthetic.

Tyler Crook’s unique illustration style was central to the identity of the issue, utilizing watercolor and ink to evoke a rustic, unsettling quality that differentiated the title from more traditional digital comic art. Upon its release, the series was received with critical acclaim, praised for its immersive world-building and the seamless synergy between Bunn’s script and Crook’s art. It became a notable entry in modern horror comics, eventually leading to a complete collected edition that brought the full saga of the series to a wider audience.
