The Defenders #83

Published by Marvel Comics in May 1980, The Defenders #83 is a notable installment in the long-running series that featured the non-team often described as Marvel's collection of outcasts. This issue emerged during a period of creative transition for the title, contributing to the series' reputation for blending metaphysical concepts with grounded superhero drama. The narrative follows the unconventional dynamic between members like Doctor Strange, Valkyrie, and the Hulk, emphasizing the character-driven storytelling that defined the comic's cult following.

The creative team for this issue included writer Ed Hannigan and artist Don Perlin. Perlin, who provided a lengthy and definitive run on the title, was known for his ability to maintain visual continuity and emotional stakes amidst the series' erratic team rosters. The cover and interior art reflect the house style of late-Bronze Age Marvel, focusing on dramatic character posing and atmospheric panels that sought to balance the high-fantasy elements of the Defenders' adventures with the traditional combat sequences expected by readers of the era.
