The Elusive Samurai #18

The Elusive Samurai, known in Japan as Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi, is a historical manga series written and illustrated by Yusei Matsui. Debuting in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2021, the series is set during the Kamakura period, focusing on the historical figure Hojo Tokiyuki following the collapse of the shogunate. Matsui designed the series to blend his signature dark humor and high-energy pacing with a grounded, research-backed exploration of feudal Japanese politics and survival.

Issue number 18 is part of the ongoing serialized collection that chronicles Tokiyuki's efforts to reclaim power through unconventional, elusive strategies. The artwork is characterized by Matsui's distinct, expressive character designs that contrast sharply with the brutal realities of the 14th-century conflict. The series has been widely praised by critics and readers for its unique blend of historical accuracy and stylized action, cementing its place as a standout title in contemporary shonen manga.
