The Elusive Samurai #20

The Elusive Samurai, known in Japan as Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi, is a historical manga series written and illustrated by Yusei Matsui. Debuting in Weekly Shonen Jump in early 2021, the series centers on Hojo Tokiyuki, a young nobleman who escapes the massacre of his family to survive and eventually reclaim his position. Matsui designed the work to blend unconventional historical drama with his signature dark humor and dynamic, stylized character designs, which distinguish it from typical battle-focused shonen narratives.

Issue number 20 serves as a chapter within the ongoing narrative trajectory of the series as it tracks Tokiyuki’s growth and the shifting political landscape of the Muromachi period. The series has been received positively by critics for its meticulous research into the Kamakura period and its ability to turn the relatively obscure figure of Tokiyuki into a compelling protagonist. The manga continues to be a staple of modern serialized Japanese comics, noted for its high-energy pacing and historical depth.
