Where it came from
The Eternals #9 was published by Marvel Comics in March 1977, serving as part of Jack Kirby's grand conceptual epic during his 1970s return to the publisher. Developed as a bold experiment in cosmic mythology, the series sought to weave ancient history, extraterrestrial influences, and human evolution into the established Marvel Universe. This issue continues the narrative arc following the title's introduction of the Celestials and their influence on the development of humanity.
Jack Kirby both wrote and provided the art for this issue, maintaining the dynamic, muscular aesthetic that defined his later career. His work on this series is noted for its ambitious scale and imaginative character designs, which moved away from traditional superhero tropes toward more operatic, sci-fi themes. While the series did not achieve the immediate commercial juggernaut status of some of Kirby's earlier collaborations with Stan Lee, it has since been recognized as a pivotal work of science-fantasy comics and a significant cornerstone of Marvel's cosmic lore.
