Where it came from
Published in March 1977, The Flash issue 247 arrived during a period of transition for DC Comics as the industry grappled with shifting reader demographics and the waning popularity of traditional Silver Age tropes. This issue is part of a run that saw the character Barry Allen navigating increasingly complex personal and professional struggles, reflecting a broader editorial move toward grounding superhero narratives in more human, relatable stakes.
The issue features cover art by Ernie Chan and interior work that fits the standard DC house style of the late 1970s, characterized by clear storytelling and dynamic action panels. At this time, the series was attempting to balance its legacy as a cornerstone of the DC Universe with the need for modern narrative tension, often focusing on the internal psychological pressures placed upon the Scarlet Speedster as he balanced his dual identity.
