The Fury of Firestorm #16

The Fury of Firestorm #16 was published by DC Comics in September 1983 as part of the original run that established the Nuclear Man within the broader DC Universe. During this era, the series was guided by the writing of Gerry Conway, who utilized the title to explore the complex dual-identity dynamics of Ronnie Raymond and Professor Martin Stein, often grounding cosmic superheroics in the social anxieties of the early 1980s.

The cover and interior artwork for this period prominently featured the work of Pat Broderick and Bob Smith, who leaned into a distinctive, clean-lined aesthetic that helped define the visual language of mid-eighties DC titles. The issue reflects the editorial transition of the time, where creative teams sought to balance Firestorm’s unique scientific origins with the increasing prevalence of interconnected crossovers that would eventually reshape the publisher’s continuity.
