The Jaguar #13

The Jaguar #13 was published in 1963 as part of the Archie Comics superhero line, known as the Mighty Comics imprint. Created during the Silver Age of comics, the character Ralph Hardy, an anthropologist who gains cat-like abilities from an ancient Incan belt, was part of a strategic attempt by Archie to compete with the rising popularity of costumed crime-fighters from publishers like Marvel and DC.

The series featured work by industry legends such as writer Jerry Siegel and artist John Giunta. While the series did not achieve the lasting cultural footprint of its industry counterparts, it remains a notable example of the era's experimentation with pulp-inspired archetypes. The aesthetic aimed for a balance of traditional adventure tropes and the campy, fast-paced energy characteristic of mid-sixties comic books, eventually coming to an end as the experimental superhero line struggled to maintain its audience against more established franchises.
