The Last Voyage of Sindbad #1

The Last Voyage of Sindbad #1 was published by Dark Horse Comics in 1999 as part of a three-issue miniseries. The work was created to pay homage to the classic cinematic adventures of the character, particularly drawing inspiration from the special effects-heavy fantasy films produced by Ray Harryhausen in the mid-20th century. It sought to capture the swashbuckling, mythic atmosphere of these films within the medium of a comic book narrative.

The series was written by Richard Gaug and illustrated by Leo Durañona, who aimed to evoke a sense of pulp adventure and legendary scale. Their artistic direction leaned into moody, atmospheric visuals to distinguish the title from standard superhero fare. Upon its release, the miniseries was recognized as a respectful tribute to the seafaring lore of the Arabian Nights, appreciated by enthusiasts of fantasy comics and fans of classic adventure cinema.
