Where it came from
Published in February 1987, The New Mutants #47 serves as a transitional chapter in the broader X-Men mythos, written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Jackson Guice. The narrative focuses on the team grappling with the aftermath of their traumatic experiences during the 'Mutant Massacre' crossover event, specifically highlighting the evolving psychological dynamics of the students at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.
The cover art, crafted by Jackson Guice, captures the somber and introspective tone that defined this period of the series. Claremont’s writing during this era was noted for prioritizing character development over traditional superhero action, reflecting a shift in comic book storytelling toward more serialized, emotionally grounded drama. The issue is widely regarded by collectors as a representative example of the mid-eighties Marvel aesthetic.
