The New Mutants #48

Published in early 1987, The New Mutants #48 serves as a pivotal entry in the series' mid-eighties run during a period of transition for the X-Men franchise. Written by Chris Claremont with interior art by Jackson Guice, the issue continues the team's evolution as they navigate their identities under the mentorship of Magneto. The story delves into the psychological pressures placed upon the young mutants, a hallmark of Claremont's long-term character development strategy.

The cover art, rendered by Jackson Guice, reflects the era's shift toward a grittier and more dramatic aesthetic within the Marvel Comics landscape. While not the most famous issue of the series, it is appreciated by collectors for its role in maintaining the narrative momentum between major crossover events. It remains a representative example of the late-1980s superhero aesthetic, balancing ensemble character dynamics with the high-stakes intrigue that defined the X-Men line at the time.
