The New Teen Titans #44

The New Teen Titans #44, released in June 1988, sits within the mid-to-late era of the seminal series famously revitalized by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez. During this period, the book continued to explore the complex, character-driven interpersonal dynamics that set it apart from typical DC Comics offerings of the early 1980s. This specific issue features the work of Marv Wolfman on scripts and interior art by Keith Pollard and Romeo Tanghal, capturing the team during a transitional phase as they navigated shifting editorial mandates and evolving DC continuity.

The design and narrative tone of this era aimed to balance high-stakes superhero action with the grounded emotional struggles of the young adult protagonists. While the peak of the title’s cultural impact occurred earlier in the decade, the issues from this timeframe are recognized by collectors for maintaining the series’ commitment to long-form storytelling. The art style reflects the transition away from the intricate, dense layouts established by Pérez toward a more standard, mid-eighties house style that prioritized clarity and pacing.
