The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe #9

The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, Volume 1, Issue 9 was published in 1983 as part of a groundbreaking 15-issue limited series. Marvel launched this project to provide a definitive, encyclopedic resource for its expansive fictional continuity, which had grown increasingly complex over the preceding two decades. This specific issue covers entries from 'O' through 'R', featuring prominent characters such as Odin, Professor X, and Quicksilver, serving as a vital reference guide for fans and creators alike.

The editorial team, led by Mark Gruenwald, aimed to standardize the histories, powers, and physical statistics of Marvel characters into a coherent archive. The series was noted for its clean, technical layout and rigorous attention to detail, often featuring illustrations by industry veterans who were tasked with depicting characters in a standardized, neutral style. The Handbook was highly regarded by the comic book community for its ambition and became a cornerstone of comic book scholarship, setting the standard for how shared universes could be indexed and maintained.
