Where it came from
The Omega Men #11, published by DC Comics in February 1983, serves as a significant milestone in comic book history as the first appearance of the character Lobo. Created by writer Roger Slifer and artist Keith Giffen, the series was designed to explore the sprawling interstellar politics of the Vega star system, featuring a diverse cast of alien rebels fighting against the oppressive Citadel regime.
When introduced, Lobo was conceived as a gritty, heavy-metal-inspired intergalactic bounty hunter, intended to contrast with the more traditional heroic archetypes of the early 1980s. While the character eventually evolved into an over-the-top, satirical anti-hero in the 1990s, his debut in this issue captured the darker, more experimental tone Giffen and Slifer were cultivating for the title, ultimately establishing a character who would become a long-standing fixture in the DC universe.
