The Outsiders #24

The Outsiders #24, published by DC Comics in November 1987, emerged during a transitional period for the team as they moved away from their original incarnation under Batman’s leadership. Created by Mike W. Barr, the title explored the dynamics of a group operating in the shadows of the superhero community. This specific issue features cover art by Erik Larsen, who was beginning to establish his distinct, kinetic style that would later define much of his work at Image Comics.

The narrative within this issue continues the team’s ongoing struggles with external threats and internal friction, reflecting the darker, more grounded tone that characterized many DC titles in the late 1980s. The writing focuses on character-driven conflict, a hallmark of Barr’s long tenure on the series. While not considered a landmark issue in terms of massive multiversal shifts, it remains a notable example of the series' mid-run efforts to balance political intrigue with the traditional action-adventure tropes of the era.
